Weapons of Mass DistractionItanium Servers
HP announced that they are making Itanium 2 blade servers. I am shocked that money is still being spent designing new IA64 systems. I thought they already had 1 foot out the door. They cost a fortune, are loud, require a nuclear reactor to power, and aren't really that great other than for very specific uses. Frankly I am surprised that Microsoft hasn't completely dropped support for them.
There's a joke going around that Microsoft has more than half of the Itaniums in the world on their campus, just for testing IA64 versions of Windows. I actually wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be true.
Just let it die. Investing more money isn't going to save your enormous flop of an investment from tanking.
