Weapons of Mass DistractionPet Health Insurance

Ok file this one under the "WTF" category for me.  I must live under a rock or something.  I had no idea there was such a thing as health insurance for pets until about 10 minutes ago when I overheard some people in the hallway at work talking about it.

Apparently it works very similar to health insurance for people, but it is a lot cheaper and covers your pets.  It may not be a bad idea since I've heard of some people paying absurd amounts of money for medical procedures for their dog or cat that has a problem.

There are even multiple levels of benefits.  Some packages include cancer coverage.  Pets are definitely turning into members of the family.  My mom has an old cat that she says she hates and is waiting for it to die, but she spends a lot of money and time buying it medicine and feeding pills to it every day.  A coworker said "you know it would die a lot faster if you didn't give it the pills" hehe.

My eye doctor told me with his polish accent "You know, sometimes cats disappear" when I told him about my pet allergies.  That is horrible.

Another thing that I didn't know actually happens is pet day care.  People take their dog(s) somewhere on their way to work every day so someone can watch it.  This one I can understand, as long as it doesn't cost a fortune.  Pet day care would be good for someone like me that works a lot and there's nobody home to let it outside during the day.  I am a big fan of indoor pets.  My cat is de-clawed.  I think a dog that only sleeps outside is kind of lame.  You might as well have a horse.
