Weapons of Mass Distractionipod sucks

I think the ipod sucks. 

What is wrong with the world these days?  You can't read 10 technology news headlines in a row without something about the ipod being in the list.  Why is this still news?  It seems that any jackass can make news headlines now with nothing more than an ipod and some stupid idea that people have been doing for years with any other kind of hardware.  "Look some guy re-encoded some dvds to a different format" isn't very interesting, but when you add the fact that they put them on an ipod suddenly it is newsworthy. 

Am I the only person that doesn't go all mushy for anything ipod related?  What is so great about them?  Someone please fill me in.  I do own an mp3 player, but I don't go around buying a million accessories for it.  I don't plug it into my car or wear uncomfortable crappy ear-bud headphones.  It isn't white either.

So it seems that ipod isn't a music player any more.  It stopped being that long long ago. Everyone makes mp3 players, but they don't end up in the news.  Whoever was behind the marketing for this thing is probably the only reason Apple still exists today.

People actually switch from a PC to a Mac just because of their ipod.. that one I will never understand. iTunes may be the most popular online music store, but the software still sucks (and has nothing to do with their hardware really). 

So someone please fill me in about this ipod craze that has been going on for far too long..  What is so great about it?  Please don't tell me "it is cool" because that doesn't mean anything.  It seems like a few guys from Apple started spreading that rumor and next thing we knew the whole world was ga-ga for this stuff without ever even having seen it. WTF?

I agree 100% with you’re acessment of the IPOD, and have thought so for some time. i bought a $60.00 mp3 player for my wife, (when using the treadmill), and it does the same thing as the ipod. I believe that AAPL, stock is going to underperform in the future. As a trader I have found that people are very fickle, and an mp3 player is a sorry thing to warrent an $80.00 stock price.
