Weapons of Mass DistractionMicrosoft's Paid Security Service
MS announced that they will launch a new security service aimed at keeping your PC safe from viruses and spyware. The service will cost $49.95 per year and cover up to 3 computers.. That doesn't sound too bad to me. Some people I imagine will get all pissed off and ask why we should pay Microsoft to fix problems they created in the first place. I don't really have a good answer for that unfortunately.
I think the company has the right to create a product that competes with McAffee or Norton, and the potential to do a better job than either of those. We will all see how this ends up. I don't think it will be too long before they try some sort of monthly/yearly service for Windows as well.
Would you pay $5/month to use Windows if you got free upgrades to the latest version every time it came out as long as your subscription was up to date?
