Weapons of Mass DistractionSEO Gone Bad - BMW delisted by Google

I guess it can happen to anybody, but I bet some heads are rolling now over at BMW.  BMW.de was removed from the Google index for using doorway pages to artificially increase their search ranking for terms like "used cars".

This is definitely a case of search engine optimization gone completely wrong.  Some guy is probably unemployed now after this incident.  The sad thing is I'm sure somebody told him to do it.

"To preserve the accuracy and quality of our search results, Google may temporarily or permanently ban from our index any sites or site authors that engage in tactics to distort their search rankings," say Google's guidelines.

I can't say I feel sorry for them. You'd think a company that size would be able to hire people that would know better than to use those kinds of tactics for search engine optimization.
